Omega 3 fatty acids make up a large portion of the brain and evidence for their role in enhancing and maintaining cognitive function is extensive. Fish oil has a lot of omega-3s, particularly DHA and EPA, both of which are crucial for cognitive function. Fish, particularly, and its fatty acids have been shown to quantifiably lessen cognitive decline (Gelder et al., 2007; Kalmijn et al., 2004; Kesse-Guyot et al., 2011; Morris et al., 2005; Nurk et al., 2007; Solfrizzi, Panza, and Capurso, 2003).
