Spinach is an excellent source of magnesium, a nutrient that plays a major role in constipation. Constipated individuals have been found to have low magnesium levels and low magnesium intake has been "associated with increasing prevalence of constipation" (Lee et al., 2007; Murakami et al., 2006). Magnesium supplementation has been successfully paired with other treatment methods (Ni et al., 2001; Shin et al., 2010).
