Hearing Loss Summary
Several nutrients are involved in auditory health. Nutrients like magnesium and N-acetylcysteine (a precursor to an antioxidant that prevents cell damage) have been used as treatments for hearing loss. Other nutrients like ALA and other omega-3s, Taurine, folate, and B12 are important for auditory function as well. An herb that is effective in treating and preventing hearing loss is Vinpocetine; its effect is in part due to its ability to increase brain blood flow.

Other Important Information
Other good sources of magnesium are pumpkin seeds, which are also a good source of ALA, and almonds.
Consuming a high glycemic diet or a diet heavy in foods that raise blood sugar like simple carbohydrates is a known risk factor for hearing loss.
